European law firm Fieldfisher has hired a leading UK construction and projects team from RPC.

The team includes RPC's head of construction and projects Dan Preston, partner David Thorne, their team of five associates and their executive assistant.

Dan will become head of construction and projects at Fieldfisher. He specialises in contentious and non-contentious matters predominantly acting for some of the UK's largest main contractors. He has also successfully led litigation in the Technology and Construction Court for developers including Hammerson plc and has extensive experience of all forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Dan's clients include the Morgan Sindall Group, Sir Robert McAlpine and SPIE and he has advised clients on major UK energy and infrastructure projects including the HS2 south stations.

David, whose clients include the VolkerWessels Group, has extensive experience advising a broad range of clients on all aspects of building and infrastructure projects with emphasis in recent years on the resolution of complex, high profile disputes particularly in adjudication and the Technology and Construction Court. David's experience includes advising on numerous PPP projects in the health, education and defence sectors.

Fieldfisher wanted to boost both its contentious and non-contentious construction teams to complement the recent expansion of its real estate practice, especially in Manchester and Birmingham.

The team will join Fieldfisher on 1st May and will be based primarily in its London office joining its existing construction team which includes partner Cecily Davis.

Antony Philips, head of real estate, Fieldfisher, commented: "We are very excited about the team joining our already excellent practice which, as a combined force, will create a truly market leading contentious and non-contentious construction team. In particular it further strengthens our Energy & Natural Resources sector offering where we are seeing increasing interest in construction projects. Dan, David and their team are key hires for the firm and our real estate practice which we are rapidly growing across all our offices."

Dan commented: "There are a lot of synergies with Fieldfisher and we really clicked with the partners we met during the recruitment process. We share a number of clients already, and with a lot of these having a focus in the Midlands and North West, this is a move which gives us a better-suited platform to service their needs throughout the country.

"We're excited by the opportunity to build on our respective offerings and create a real heavyweight team servicing all aspects of the construction industry. I'm confident that the personalities and abilities of the existing Fieldfisher team will allow for a seamless integration with my own existing first class team. We leave RPC with heavy hearts, and are sad to be saying goodbye to so many friends but we will no doubt continue our relationships."

The lawyers joining with Dan and David include Jamie Key who will join as a partner, senior associates Samantha Thompson and Alex Badel, and associates Christina Cheriyan and Sarah Shafiq.
