Matthew Lohn elected as new Fieldfisher Managing Partner

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP announces today that Matthew Lohn has been appointed the firm’s new Managing Partner.  He begins his term with immediate effect.

Since 2004 Matthew has been a Board member and has headed up the firm’s Regulatory Law Group.  Under his leadership the group has secured a leading reputation and  grown to ten partners and more than 30 other lawyers.

With a strategic focus on the firm’s core areas of IP & Technology, Regulatory and Corporate, Matthew intends to build on Fieldfisher’s European presence, growing to service an increasingly international client base in the firm’s target sectors.

The contested election for Managing Partner was held in June and Matthew was voted in by the partnership. Moira Gilmour, Managing Partner since 2006, decided not to stand for a third term.

A qualified doctor and lawyer, Matthew Lohn joined the firm as a trainee in 1994. He became a partner in 1999 and until his appointment as Managing Partner he was the firm's graduate recruitment partner.

Matthew has a leading reputation in public and regulatory law and advises statutory and other public bodies on all aspects of their work. He has developed a particular expertise in the field of healthcare, but also advises on financial, sporting and legal regulation.

Moira Gilmour became Managing Partner in April 2006 when she took over from Colin McArthur.  Since then, the firm has increased turnover from £60m to £94m and has expanded in Europe, opening offices in Germany, Belgium and France.

Matthew Lohn said:

“Under Moira’s leadership the firm has seen some big changes with significant growth in the UK as well as expansion across Europe. We have a sound base for future growth and I will be looking to continue to build on that, particularly in our continental European offices which I expect to form an increasing proportion of the firm’s overall turnover.

I consider it a great honour to have been elected to the position of Managing Partner.  The next three years are crucial to the development of the firm and with a clear strategic focus on our regulatory, IP & technology and corporate practices, an international client base and a growing European footprint,  I believe the firm is in a strong position. I am pleased to be given the opportunity to take Fieldfisher forward.”

Charles Whiddington, head of the firm’s Competition & EU Regulatory Group will take over as head of the wider Regulatory Law Group and partner Sarah Ellson will head up the Public and Regulatory Law practice.
