The Government has confirmed the announcement made last month that the inheritance tax nil rate band will be frozen at £325,000 for a further three years until 2017/18. This move is contrary to his announcement in the Autumn Statement 2012 that the nil rate band would increase by 1% for the 2015/16 tax year.
There is also a welcomed announcement following the consultation last year that the method of calculating the inheritance tax exit and periodic charges is to be simplified in the Finance Act 2014. A further more detailed consultation setting out options for simplification is expected to be launched early next year.
