Over the past 25 years, I have held various senior roles across corporate and investment banking at Deutsche Bank. Most recently I was a Managing Director, Chief Country Officer & Head of Corporate Bank Pakistan and a member of Middle East & Africa executive committee. During my tenure as country head, I led some of the most high profile transactions in Pakistan, including the largest bond financing, international Sukuk, first Green bond and biggest equity listing in the history of the country. I also restructured the corporate banking business, led several projects to improve the governance framework and automation, and established the financing and solutions business.
Prior to that, I was based in London as Head of Middle East & Africa debt origination, having raised over US$ 50 billion for a number of sovereign, corporate and FI clients. I led the expansion of the Sukuk business for Deutsche Bank leading to a top 3 position in the international Sukuk issuance. I also executed several ground breaking transactions for clients which included, the first Rand denominated international bond, the first 30-year Sukuk, and introduced several new issuers to the capital markets.
Before 2006, I was part of Global Markets Asia Management Committee and oversaw local markets sales and trading business in Pakistan, in addition to leading the Islamic finance initiative for the bank in Asia. Over the years, I have been involved in several market development initiatives across emerging markets and served as Chairman, Capital Markets committee and Member, executive committee of Pakistan Banks’ Association.
