Fieldfisher acts for JSC National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) on Kazakhstan's first hybrid power plant

European law firm Fieldfisher has represented its long-standing client JSC "National Company "KazMunayGas" ("KMG") on the construction of Kazakhstan's first hybrid power plant, developed as a joint project with Italian energy company Eni S.p.A. (Eni).

  • Project with Eni S.p.A. (Eni) to create 800 direct jobs.
  • Part of the KMG's Doctrine plan for achieving carbon neutrality in the Republic of Kazakhstan by 2060.

A Kazakhstani state-owned oil and gas company, KMG has been increasingly ramping up its renewable's capabilities. The 247 MW Hybrid Renewables-Gas Power Plant Project is the first of its kind in the country. It will be situated in Zhanaozen, in the Mangistau region and will integrate solar, wind, and gas power to produce and supply low-carbon, stable electricity to KMG subsidiaries in the region.

The Fieldfisher team acting for KMG was led by Corporate Partner Nodir Sidikov and Director Anastasiya Kapustina, supported by colleagues from the corporate team  - Natalia Schuster, Irina Mikhnova, Victoria Lebed, Julia Safitova, Kateryna Ustinova, Alisher Satimov and Islam Aubakirov. The team also included Yuliya Kupchenko from the Litigation team, Nick Pimlott, Asfand Gulzar and Sascha Dethof from the Regulatory & Competition team and Marinus de Waal and Neville Bhikha from the corporate team in The Netherlands.

Fieldfisher has previously acted for KMG the on its initial public offering (IPO) on the Astana International Exchange (AIX) and Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE). It has also advised on the listing of JSC KazMunaiGas Exploration Production and the listing of KMG bonds, both on the London Stock Exchange.
